Roxanna Peer
Died on 1/4/1890

#1 Blair Courier 11 Jan 1890

DIED—Roxanna Peer, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Peer, Kingsley, Iowa, on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 1890, aged about 2 year and 9 months.

Mr. Peer will be remembered by many of our readers. His people live at Modale, Iowa, and he is a brother of Mrs. B.C. Maynard. A telegram reached the latter Saturday, and Wednesday last a letter came detailing the terrible misfortune that caused the little one’s death. Mr. Peer was absent at Sioux City, and George Jackman, another man well known here and across the river, with his hired man were butchering hogs. Geo. had two pails of boiling hot water in his hands, and the little girl ran against him splashing a part of the contents of one pail into her face and down upon her body, which resulted in death, after lingering four days. “Tis sad to part with those we love, but the good book teaches that “of such is the kingdom of heaven,” and those are his jewels. Though her childish prattle will no longer gladden the hearts of father and mother, their loss is her eternal gain. Such accidents as this we are frequently called upon to chronicle, and in this, as in many others, no blame attaches to anyone, but it tells all to use great care to avoid them.

Obituary

DIED---Roxie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Peer, age 2 years, 11 months and 17 days. She was a most beautiful child and we deeply sympathize with them in their bereavenment.

Darling Roxie has crossed the dark river, She has gone to the throne Where many an angel Before her has flown;

She shines with the angels, As pure as the snow, But we are lonely without her, Wherever we go.

No more we’ll hear that darling voice, A prattling all the day; Nor more we’ll greet those laughing eyes To soothe our weary way;

No more we’ll press those ruby lips That were to us so dear, For she’s shining with the angels, The golden harp to hear.

It is a debt we all must pay, Why would we grieve to see God gather in such harvest, As our dear child must be.

She was a treasure God had given Now he hath taken home, Let us prepare to meet her there, In that celestial home.

Mrs. Lucy Brown
