Hooper man dies after party in Washington County By Tricia Barber

A 23-year-old man from Hooper died early Sunday morning after a rural Washington County party.

Seth Johnson of Hooper was transported by Craig Rescue Squad to Oakland Mercy Hospital, Washington County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Kevin Willis said. Johnson was pronounced dead at the hospital, but it is unknown when and how he died, Willis said. The investigation is continuing and an autopsy would be done Monday, he said.

Deputies were called about 5 a.m. to 1951 County Road A in the northwest part of Washington County, just south of the Burt County line. The address was then believed to be a Burt County one and that sheriff’s office was called. Washington County deputies were called again about 5:40 a.m. Burt County deputies assisted.

Witnesses told deputies that Johnson was lying on the ground behind a pickup truck. The driver of the 2006 Dodge Ram, Jason S. Parcel, 29, of Oakland, told deputies he didn’t know Johnson was there. He was leaving and felt something and people started screaming, the report said.

When emergency workers arrived, people were attempting CPR and other aid, Willis said.

When those at the party noticed Johnson was missing, they thought he had already left, Willis said.

“We are not sure how he died,” Willis said. The assumption is that he was alive before the accident, he said.
