FRANK JAHNEL DIES OF HEART FAILURE

Frank Jahnel, on of the best known citizens of this county died suddenly of heart failure at his home on West Colfax Street at about 6:30 o’clock yesterday evening.

Mr. Jahnel was born in Barlt, Holstein, Germany, Dec. 8, 1851 and was thus past 69 years of age. He came to this country when twenty-two years old going directly to Missouri at which place he stayed for two months then came to Nebraska. He located in Grand Island working there for two years and then went to Omaha. In Omaha he worked for two years as a clerk and then bought the farm in Richland Township where he lived until he retired from active work in 1907 and moved to Blair.

Mr. Jahnel was a man who in his life took a keen interest in local politics and for twenty five years served his school district as a faithful officer. He also served for six years on the county board and was two terms a member of the state legislature.

In 1876, he was married to Miss Bertha M. Munster and to this union eight children were born: Fritz, Frank, William and Chris all living in this vicinity. Mrs. Lena Anderson of Ladysmith, Wisconsin, Mrs. Dora Craven of Osmond, Nebr. Mrs. Elsie Miller of Kennard, Nebr. and Mrs. Rose Matthiesen of Blair. Shortly after his retirement from the farm his wife died, and he then married Mrs. Sophia Alberts who survives him.

The funeral will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the home on Colfax street with Rev. Wallers of Arlington officiating and the burial will be made in the *Blair Cemetery.

HON. FRANK KAHNEL SUCCUMBS TO PARALYTIC STROKE

Frank Jahnel, Sr. passed away Wednesday evening following a stroke of paralysis received during the day. Mr. Jahnel was born in Holstein, Germany December 8, 1851, and was nearly 70 year of age at the time of his death. He came with his parents to this country when a young man and has lived in Washington county, Nebraska for many years. He had followed farming and stock raising on a beautiful, productive farm in Richland township, and retired from actual farm work several years ago and with his wife moved to this city to enjoy the fruits of his labor.

In 1903-4 he served as a member of the state legislature and also served three terms as a member of the board of county commissioners.

Funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the home.
