Gladys Plugge

Gladys L. Plugge, 75, of Arlington died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

She was born Nov. 7, 1932, in Wolbach to Joshua and Elsie (Carruth) Clement. She grew up at North Loup and moved to Grand Island in 1943. She was a 1950 graduate of Grand Island High School. She moved to Omaha in 1956 and in 1964 moved to Arlington. She owned and operated Crystal Tailoring in Arlington and then in Blair, retiring in 1988. She was known as the “Iris Lady.” She and her husband owned Shady Acres Iris Garden in rural Arlington from 1988 to 2000.

She married Robert Plugge in 1957 in Falls City.

She was a member of the American Iris Society.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Shelby L. (and wife, Nancy) Miller of Fremont and Michael (and wife, Tyna) Plugge of Newman Grove; four daughters, Judy Miller of Arlington, Patty Miller and Dawn (and husband, Michael) Willis, all of Omaha, and Shirley Debrow of San Antonio; a sister, Ethel (and husband, Richard) Redding of Cotesfield; mother-in-law, Wilma Plugge of Fremont, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ramona Sobczak; two Sisters, Wanita Wedell & Wreatha Cooper, three grandchildren, Carla Miller, Angela Sobczak & Dominique and a great-granddaughter, Christy Mitchell.

The private graveside service will be Saturday at Kennard Cemetery. Closed casket visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m., all at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington.

A memorial has been established to the Arlington Rescue Squad.
