Blair native Mildred M. May, 95, of Fremont, died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at the A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services were March 23 at Moser Memorial Chapel, with interment in Fremont’s Memorial Cemetery.

Mildred M. May was born Jan. 12, 1910, in Blair to Nels and Mary (Larson) Wulff.

On Jan. 28, 1930, she married Thomas “Ervin” May in Blair. After her marriage, the couple lived in several places while Mr. May worked in the construction business. They moved to Fremont in 1941.

Mrs. May operated May’s Ceramic Shop in Fremont for more than 40 years. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, painting, gardening and making hats. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fremont, and the church circle; was a 50-year member of the Dodge County extension Club; served as a 4-H leader for many years; and was a life member of the V.F.W. Post No. 854 Auxiliary.

Mrs. May’s husband died in 1996; Mrs. May had been living at the A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont since February 2000.

She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Lennie and LaVonne May, Ronald and Maureen May, and Gary and Avonne May, all of Fremont; daughter, Sherry Stohs of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son-in-law, Stanley Carlson of Fremont; three sisters, who were raised by Mr. and Mrs. May, JoAnn and Bob Detlesen of Santa Ana, Calif., Leona Schurkamp of American Canyon, Calif., and Winona Mutschler of Discovery Bay, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jane Carlson; son-in-law, Wesley Stohs; and three brothers, Ervin, Harold and Virgil Wulff.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Fremont or the American Lung Association.

The funeral for Mildred M. May, 95, of Fremont will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.

She died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

She was born Jan. 12, 1910, in Blair to Nels and Mary (Larson) Wulff. She grew up in the Blair area. She married Thomas “Ervin” May on Jan. 28, 1930, in Blair. After her marriage, the couple lived in several places while her husband worked in the construction business. They moved to Fremont in 1941. Her husband preceded her in death April 26, 1996. She had been residing at A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont since February 2000. She operated May’s Ceramic Shop in Fremont for over 40 years.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fremont and the church circle. She was a 50-year member of the Dodge County extension Club. She was a 4-H Club leader for many years and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854 Auxiliary.

Survivors include: three sons, Lennie (and wife, LaVonne) May, Ronald (and wife, Maureen) May and Gary (and wife, Avonne) May, all of Fremont; a daughter, Sherry Stohs of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son-in-law, Stanley Carlson of Fremont; three sisters, whom she and her husband raised, JoAnn (Mrs. Bob) Dethlesen of Santa Anna, Calif., Leona Schurkamp of American Canyon, Calif., and Winona Mutschler of Discovery Bay, Calif.; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, a son-in-law and three brothers.

The Rev. Melanie Adams of First United Methodist Church will officiate Wednesday’s service. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today with the family receiving friends from 6:30-7:30 p., all at the funeral home. Visitation will continue from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Memorials have been established to First United Methodist Church in Fremont and the American Lung Association.
