Vivian Marie Johnson, 90, of Papillion, formerly of Blair, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at Huntington Park Care Center in Papillion.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Elim Lutheran Church in rural Hooper. Interment will be in Swaburg Cemetery in rural Hooper with military honors by American Legion Posts 127 and 46 and Ryan VFW Post 5543. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Vivian Marie Johnson was born Sept. 9, 1923, in Oakland, to August and Carrie (Larson) Johnson. She was the youngest of seven children and lived the first few years of her life on the family farm.

At the age of 6, she lost her mother, and not too long after that, she went to live at the Lutheran Home for Children in Fremont where she grew up with her 8-year-old sister, Virginia.

She graduated from Fremont High School in 1942. She enlisted in the U. S. Army in November of 1943. While serving in the armed forces, she had the opportunity to travel and see the world. Being stationed in Germany, France and Japan were some of the highlights of her life.

After retiring from the Army in 1964, she went to work at Walter Reed Medical Center as a civil service employee.

After she retired from civil service, she returned home to Nebraska, living in Craig, Fremont, Blair, Gretna and Papillion.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. She was well-loved by her family and considered her nieces and nephews to be the children she never had. A fun-loving practical jokester, she made friends easily and could always be counted on to make others feel good and laugh.

She was preceded in death by her brothers: Cliff, Clyde, Carroll, Curtis and Cameron Johnson; and sister, Virginia McCormick.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
