Former mayor is dead at 64; served 1974-77

Jack L. Plugge

Services were held in Plainview May 23 for former Stanton mayor Jack L. Plugge, 64, of Plainview. He died at a Norfolk hospital May 19, 1995.

Father Wil Spenner officiated at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Plainview, with singing by the church congregation. Organist was Janice Knaak. Burial was in the church cemetery at Plainview. Pallbearers were Lloyd Peterson, Walter and Bill Plugge, Ronnie Rosenbaum, Warren Jensen and Melvin Misfeldt.

Jack Leroy, the son of Albert and Wilma (Utermann) Plugge, was born at Fremont, Apr. 15, 1931. He married Constance Urzak May 25, 1957 at Schuyler. He *farmed with his family until 1957, when he began working as a bookkeeper in Omaha. He went on to own and operate a bar in Wausa. Later he returned to bookkeeping in Norfolk, Neligh and Plainview where he worked for then Kuhl Implement from 1982 until his retirement in 1993.

He was a charter member of the Missouri River Anglers Assn., and served as secretary-treasurer since its organization. He once served as mayor of Stanton, when he was elected in May of 1974. He resigned in February of 1977. He had also served as president of the Stanton PTA. He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Plainview.

Survivors include his wife Connie of Plainview; sons, Robert of Norfolk and Patrick of San Antonio, Tex., and daughter, Christine (Mrs. Joe) Proskovec of David City. Also surviving are four grand-children; his mother, Mrs. Wilma Plugge and a brother, Robert Plugge, both of Arlington.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Plugge.
