Funeral services were Saturday, July 11, at Dundee Presbyterian Church for Myrven L. Mead, 73, of Omaha, who died July 8, 1981, of a heart ailment in Omaha. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Myrven L. Mead was born October 21, 1907, at Tobias, Nebraska, to William and Elsie Stetson Mead. He was a member of Dundee Presbyterian Church. He was a Senior Vice-President of Northern Natural Gas Company before his retirement.

Mead graduated in electrical engineering from the University of Nebraska and joined the company in 1931, a year and a half after it started operations, according to a story in the company newspaper.

In the mid-1930’s, he worked on the design and operation of the first method for cleaning the inside of pipeline, a method still in use decades later, and helped develop one of the first gas company tariffs filed with the Federal Power Commission.

He retired in 1969 and spent much of his time traveling and working with photography and woodcarving. He also was active in many civic organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Lela; sons and daughters-in-law, Don R. and Lucy Mead, Omaha; Monte and Jane Mead, Blair; and daughters and sons-in-law, June and William Hansen, Griswold, Iowa; and Pamela and Harold Hoff of Omaha. Two sisters, Mrs. Velda Sims and Mrs. Fern Stewart, both of Manhattan, Kansas; one brother, Loren mead, Kerville, Texas; and ten grandchildren also survive him.

Memorials may be given to the giver’s favorite charity.
