Wilfred H. Meeves, 78, of Bennington died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.

Services were Friday, Sept. 11, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington with Pastor Lawrence Sundell officiating.

Mirian Sukraw was the pianist and Ken Sukraw was the soloist.

Wilfred Hans Meeves was born Feb. 19, 1920, on the family farm in Bennington to Will and Amanda (Micheel) Meeves.

He was baptized on March 6, 1921, and confirmed on March 25, 1934, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington.

He attended Dornacker School and Bennington High School.

On Jan. 19, 1942, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as a tank driver. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 16, 1945.

On Feb. 17, 1951, he married Hilda Sandstrom.

He loved to see things grow and he lived and farmed for 53 years on the family farm.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kristi Hargis of South Berwick, Maine, Janet and Jim Hayes of Omaha and Vicki and Reid Japp of Bennington and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
