Services for Samuel J. Penix, 64, Blair, who died June 27, 1985, in Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, were Monday, July 1, at the First Lutheran Church of Blair. The Rev. Kurt Sortland officiated and burial was in the Blair Cemetery.

Penix was born Dec. 19, 1920, the son of Travis and Elizabeth Penix of Charleston, Ark. He married Maxine Cherry, who precedes him in death.

He was a carpenter for Great Plains Construction. He was a veteran of World War II also.

He is survived by two sons, Larry of Kennard, and Keith of Camp Hawze, Korea; two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Barbara) Lippincott of Blair, and Ruth Gagne of Huntington Beach, Calif.; one brother, Chester (Pete) of Arkansas; four sisters, Mrs. Charles (Hazel) Dockery of Oklahoma City, Okla., Mrs. Richard (Sylvia) Meredith of Charleston, Ark., and Mrs. Thelma Wingfield of Charleston, Ark.; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother, Robert.

Pallbearers were Glen Fitchhorn, Richard Fitchhorn, Reinhard Hank, Ronnie Huffman, Chad Lippincott and Don Lippincott. Honorary pallbearer was Chester Penix.

Organist was Clare Cowing and vocalist was Keith Hightree.

Campbell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
