Wayland Dillon Penke, 71

Services for Wayland Dillon Penke, 71 of Kennard who died February 15, 1994 will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 19 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bennington. Rev. Merlin Reith will officiate. Burial will be at Prairie View Cemetery at Washington.

Visitation will be Thursday evening and all day Friday.

Wayland Dillon Penke was born April 2, 1922 to George and Gladys Dillon Penke at Bennington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, George Calvin and two sisters, Vernell Baker and Joyce Blake.

He is survived by his wife, Edna M. Kunnemann Penke; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and James Jensen, Topeka, Kansas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Nancy Penke and Donn and Anne Penke, all of Kennard; sisters, Marilyn Jones of Omaha and Beverly Roh, Rockville, Maryland; seven grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Services for Wayland Dillon Penke, 71 of Kennard, who died February 15, 1994 in Tekamah were Saturday, February 19 at Zion Lutheran Church. Rev. Merlin Reith officiated. Burial with military rites was in Prairie View Cemetery at Washington.

Wayland Dillon Penke was born April 2, 1922 to George and Gladys Dillon Penke at Bennington. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. He attended Bennington Public Schools.

He served his country during World War II in the European Theatre and received three battle stars.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post at Bennington.

He lived and farmed in the Bennington-Kennard-Elk City area all his life. He was past national director for the National Farmers Organization in Corning, Iowa.

He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 20 years as a carman.

He married Edna Marie Kunnemann December 9, 1944.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George Calvin and two sisters, Vernelle Baker and Joyce Blake.

He is survived by his wife, Edna; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and James Jensen, Topeka, Kansas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Nancy Penke and Donn and Anne Penke, all of Kennard; sisters, Marilyn Jones of Omaha and Beverly Roh of Rockville, Maryland; seven grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to V.F.W. Post No. 19486 in Bennington or to the Center for Rural Affairs, Land Link Program at Walthill, Nebraska.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
