Guy F. Pensyl, 59

Services are 11 am. Thursday, August 15 at the Fremont Church of the Nazarene, on Highway 77, one mile north of Fremont for Guy F. Pensyl, 59 of Herman, who died August 10, 1996 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha following surgery to repair an aneurysm. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery at Elkhorn.

Guy F. Pensyl was born January __, 1937 in Shamokin, Pennsylvania to Charles Herbert, Sr. and Niami Irene Maurer Pensyl. He attended school at Coal Township High in Shamokin where he played football, basketball and participated in the marching band.

He joined the United States Army in 1955 and served nine years as a military policeman. His service included tours in Korea and in France. He rose to the rank of specialist and was twice awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal.

In 1965, he joined the Omaha police Force. He served in several different divisions, including the cruiser, traffic, burglary and warrants divisions and as a sniper for the Emergency Response Unit. He received numerous commendations for heroism and dedication, retiring from the Omaha force in 1984.

He had served as the Arlington police chief for about four years between 1985 and 1990. He was a Washington County deputy sheriff from July, 1988 to August of 1989 and from August, 1990 until his death. He had numerous letters of recommendation and had earned the Life Saving Commendation in February, 1996. He was also a part-time police officer for the village of Boys Town.

He married Charlotte Adams of Valley, Nebraska June 1, 1957.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Herbert and a daughter, Mary Francis “Missy”, who lost her life in a boating accident in 1978.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte of Herman; his mother, Mrs. Niami Bower of Shamokin; three sons and daughter-in-law, Guy F. Jr. and Heidi Pensyl and Arthur Pensyl, all of Herman and Edwin Lee Pensyl of Arlington; three daughters and sons-in-law, Tina Marie and Stephen A. Halley and Kathleen Patricia and Ted R. Shively, all of Arlington; Naomi Irene and Steven Bartlett of Omaha; Linda and Paul Hubsch, Davey, Nebraska and Beverly and Jack Wilburn II; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles Herbert, Jr. and Anita Pensyl of Shamokin; 11 grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends.
