The funeral Mass for Ronald F. Peppmuller, 68, of Lincoln, formerly of Arlington, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont.

He died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln.

He was born Oct. 1, 1939, in Spencer, S.D., to Orlo and Luella (Rassel) Peppmuller. He graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1957 in Mitchell, S.D. He attended Dakota Wesleyan University prior to joining the military. His military duty included six months in the South Dakota National Guard, three years in the U.S. Navy and four years in the U.S. Army, including a two-year tour in Germany. While in Germany he took part in the Berlin Air Lift. He started work at Hormel Foods Corporation in Mitchell and transferred to Fremont in 1979. He retired after a 30-year career in 1997. He moved to Arlington in 1992 and to Lincoln in May 2007.

He married Betty Ginsbach on Aug. 8, 1964, in Plankinton, S.D.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont, American Legion Post 20 of Fremont and American Legion Post 71 of Arlington. He also was a baseball umpire for various programs for about 10 years.

Survivors include: his wife; three sons, Doug (and wife, Melanie Schneider) Peppmuller and Maj. Gerry (and wife, Tammy Bellis) Peppmuller, all of Fremont, and Jon (and wife, Karen Moore) Peppmuller of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Ashley, Jaryd, Megan, Mitchell, Matthew and Caden; a sister, Joyce (and husband, Pat) Houlihan of Burnsville, Minn.; two brothers, Jim (and wife, Lorraine) Peppmuller of Mokena, Ill., and Steve (and friend, Patty) Peppmuller of Madison, S.D.; and 13 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Rev. Ron Battiato will officiate Thursday’s service. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Thursday at the church. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Fremont with military graveside services conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854 and American Legion Post 20, both of Fremont.
