Claus Mehrens, Former Assessor, Died Wednesday

Well known Calhoun man was 81 Year Old. Farmed at Wranch

Claus B. Mehrens, well known Washington County man, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, April 30th. Mr. Mehrens was the apparent victim of a heart attack after returning home following a visit with friends.

Services were held on Saturday, May 3rd, with the Sievers Funeral Home, of Fort Calhoun, in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mehrens was born and raised on a farm southwest of Fort Calhoun. He was born on February 17, 1888 to Jacob and Marie Mehrens. He was married to Dora Bell Epling on February 10, 1910. The Mehrens lived on their farm until 1947 when they moved to Fort Calhoun.

Mr. Mehrens’ entire life was spent in Washington County, being active in 4-H club work, both State and Washington County Fair activities and other related agricultural activities. He also judged at many of the Fairs in the area.

Mr. Mehrens also served as County Commissioner for four years and County Assessor for 10 years. He was active in the Solomon Lodge No. 10, Masonic A. F. and A. M. plus the Neome Chapter of the O.E.S. 121.

Surviving Mr. Mehrens is his wife, and one daughter, Anita. He has one surviving sister, Katie Mehrens of Fort Calhoun, and one brother, Henry A. Mehrens of Omaha.
