Services For Herbert Meier Held Wednesday

Herbert Leroy Meier, age 71, of Fremont, passed away Sunday at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner following a lingering illness. He was born at Herman, Nebraska, on July 25, 1906, and had lived in the Hooper community his entire lifetime, farming south of town until his retirement in 1973, at which time he and his wife moved to Fremont.

He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper and had served as a councilman for that Church; Past Master of the AF and AM Masonic Lodge of Hooper; a Past Patron of the Eastern Star; served on the Hooper School Board; and had been a member of the Hooper Commercial Club and Lions Club.

He was married to Leona Niebaum who preceded him in death in 1966. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Mildred Wagner on August 20, 1969 who survives along with two sons, Duane of St. Louis, Missouri; one daughter, Mrs. Alvin (Joanne) Edelmaier of Omaha; one sister, Mrs. Lora Niebaum of Fremont and four grandchildren. He is also survived by one step-son, Wayne Wagner of Fremont; three step-daughters; Mrs. Janet Thomas of Miami, Florida; Mrs. Sharon Peterson, Craig; and Mrs. Diane Bartling of St. Louis, Missouri; and eleven step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Rev. Alex Wacker officiating.

Interment was in the Hooper Cemetery. Masonic graveside services were under the auspices of the AF & AM Masonic Lodge of Hooper. Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. Willis Bopp, organist and a duet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Schumacher. Pallbearers were Vernon Brandert, Bill Gosker, Delmer Groeteke, LaVerne Marquardt, Harold Peters and Patrick Schlueter. Services were under the direction of the Warne Funeral Home.
