Lester O. Meier, 71

Lester O. Meier, 71 of rural Arlington, died early Sunday morning, Jan. 20, 2002, in the Arbor Manor Living Center in Fremont.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Phillip Vance and Vicar Michael Meyer will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, north of Arlington. Military graveside honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 8332 and American Legion Post No. 71, both of Arlington.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Visitation will also be held an hour before services at the church on Sunday.

Lester O. Meier was born May 10, 1930 in Wayne to Otto and Emma (Meyer) Meier. He grew up in Wayne.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from August, 1951, to May, 1953. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with two stars, United Nations Medal, and the China Service Medal.

After completing his military duty, he returned to Wayne. He began a career of driving trucks, most of it self-employed, that lasted 40 years.

On Dec. 8, 1959, he married Karen Brinkman. The couple lived in Fremont until moving to a home two miles east of Arlington in 1972.

Mr. Meier was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Fremont, and was a “life member” of V.F.W. Post No. 8332 of Arlington.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, two sons and daughters-in-law, Rex and Twila Meier of Checotah, Okla., and Mark and Jennie Meier of Fremont, two daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Dean Brummet of Blairsburg, Iowa, and Amy and David Hershley of Jewell, Iowa, and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, a grandchild, and two brothers.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
