Ulysses S. Cain, 66, former Blair merchant, but for a number of years a leading insurance man in Fremont, died at Clarkson hospital in Omaha Monday after a long illness. He had been in the hospital about three weeks. His family was at the bedside when death came.

Mr. Cain had been a resident of Fremont 20 years, and had been an insurance company representative all that time. He was born August 28, 1868, in Brooklyn, Iowa.

Self-educated after leaving the Brooklyn schools, Mr. Cain prepared himself for the educational field. He taught in Iowa in 1888 and 1889, and then obtained a position in Washington county; Nebraska, where he taught for two years.

Leaving the teaching profession, he became a merchant in Blair, remaining here three and one-half years during the early nineties. He then went to Omaha to work for Browning, King, and company, but left that employ to become a life insurance salesman.

He was married September 24, 1896, to Miss Harriet T. Tracy, a native and resident of Blair. She survives, as do a son, Stanley, and a daughter, Mrs. James Shephard.

Politically Mr. Cain was a Republican. He was a member of the Methodist church and took an active part in church and Sunday school work in Fremont. He held membership in the Masonic lodge, the Odd Fellows and Eastern Star.

Funeral services and burial were held yesterday in Fremont.
