Opal A. Meierhenry, 89, of Fremont died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Opal Hansen was born Aug. 3, 1913, in Blair to Holger and Vassie (McCoy) Hansen. She was raised in Blair and graduated from Blair High School. After high school, she attended Dana College in Blair and Wayne St. College in Wayne. She received her teaching certificate and then taught country school in the Herman area for four years. She married Howard Meierhenry on June 17, 1934, in Telebasta. They lived on a farm in the Telebasta area for many years, then moved to Fremont in December 1959. She then worked for the JC Penney company for 17 years.

She was a member of the Baker’s Dozen Extension Club, The Presbyterian Church and its women’s group, and the Retired JC Penney’s Ladies group.

Survivors include: her husband, Howard; a son, Roger (and wife, Lynda) Meierhenry of Fremont; two grandchildren, Brenda (Mrs. Mike) Kincanon of Fremont and Brad Meierhenry of Lincoln; and two great-grandchildren, Abby and Ellen Kincanon of Fremont.

She was preceded in death by a son, Dale in 1994, and a brother, Orville Hansen.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at The Presbyterian Church in Fremont with the Rev. Stephen Brownlee officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. today at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont with the family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
