J. Kunneman, 74, Succumbs To Injuries

Chest Crushed in One-Car Accident Thursday Afternoon

John Kunneman, well-known Washington County farmer, died Saturday of injuries which he suffered in a one-car accident on a rural Washington County road Thursday afternoon. The elderly man failed to note a corner in time and his pickup truck plunged into a ditch. He was severely injured about the chest.

Mr. Kunneman was 74 years old. He was born at Elkhorn, Nebraska December 7, 1891. All of his life was devoted to farming and he still lived on his farm in the south part of the county at the time of his death.

He had taken an active part in civic affairs and was, perhaps, best known for his leader-ship a number of years ago of the Washington County Taxpayers League. In recent months he has spent considerable time attempting to revive interest in a similar organization.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret and by a daughter, Ruby, who is Mrs. Donald Cain of Arlington. There are three grandchildren.

Also living are four brothers. They are Dietrich Kunneman, of Bennington, Fred and George Kunneman of Imperial, Nebraska and Ben Kunneman of Deshler, Nebraska.

Three sisters are Mrs. Carsten Wrich and Mrs. Chris Christensen of Kennard, and Mrs. Clara Hedges of Seldon, Missouri.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at St. John’s Lutheran church with the Rev. Norman Schroeder conducting.

Pallbearers were Walter Wrich, Kenneth Krum, Elmer Kunneman, Dennis Witcofski and Calvin Christensen.
