Lena Schumacher Died Last Saturday

Mrs. Lena Schumacher died at her home in Kennard Saturday, February 19th. She was 85 years old.

Mrs. Schumacher was born February 1, 1881 in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany and came to this country with her parents as a young child. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Boock, early day farmers of the Kennard vicinity.

In 1900 she was married to August Schumacher and they lived on a farm south of Kennard for many years. Mr. Schumacher died a number of years ago. Following his death, Mrs. Schumacher continued living on the farm, moving to Kennard later as she retired from active operation of the farm.

She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Christena Stender, Mrs. Claus Wrigg, (Sophie) Mrs. Arthur Mueller, (Hilda) and Mrs. Harry Andreasen (Margaret) all of Kennard and Mrs. Eva Wrigg, of Blair. Three sons, August, Walter and Chris, all live in the Kennard area.

In addition, there are 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Anna Petrowsky, lives at Hooker, Oklahoma and a brother, John Boock, lives at Sterling, Kansas.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Emmaus Lutheran church in Kennard with the Rev. Harold Laursen conducting the service. Burial, under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home of Blair, was made in the German cemetery in the south part of the county.

Pallbearers were all grandsons, Alton Stender, Donald Mueller, James Wrigg, Ronald Andreasen, Dennis Schumacher and Gary Schmacher.
