John P. Wolsmann, 99, Died Sunday

John P. Wolsmann 99 year old Blair man passed away Sunday June 20th at the home of his daughter and son-in-law Marie and Ed Nielsen after a two months illness. He was one of Washington County’s long time residents and had lived on Nebraska Street for 47 years. Since the death of his wife in 1952 he had made his home with the Nielsens.

Mr. Wolsmann was born in Seest by Kolding on July 24th, 1865 and would have been 100 years old in another month. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his native Parish.

He came to America November 2nd. 1882, went back to Denmark five years later and bought back his future bride, Bodil Johanne Madsen Bade. They were married September 10th. 1887 and in 1952 they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

The Wolsmanns farmed near Orum until 1904 later moving to a farm northwest of Kennard. They retired and moved to Blair in 1918.

Mr. Wolsmann is survived by two sons, Soren Wolsmann and Henry Wolsmann and by three daughters, Mrs. J.T. Nelson (Annie), Mrs. Nels Buchardt (Meta) and Mrs. Ed Nielsen (Marie), all of Blair. Preceding him in death are his wife, another son Detlef and two infant children. Other survivors are 11 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday June 23, at 3:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, the Rev. George Pallesen officiating. Arrangements were in charge of the Bendorf Funeral Home. Burial was made in the Orum cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Robert Wolsmann, Eugene Wolsmann, John R. Wolsmann, Norman Buchardt, Bernard Paulsen and Albert Hansen.
