Private gravesides services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, March 2 at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont for Richard H. Melvard, 90 of Fremont and formerly of Arlington, who died at A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont February 28, 1995.

Richard H. Melvard was born November 7, 1904 at Newman Grove, Nebraska. He moved to Arlington with his parents in 1911 and was a 1923 graduate of Arlington High School.

In September, 1923, he began working as a barber with his father. He purchased the barber shop business in January, 1929 and barbered there until retiring in 1989. He lived at Arlington until moving to Fremont in 1991.

He married Vera M. Schafersman February 24, 1929 at Telbasta, Nebraska. She preceded him in death December 31, 1991.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Louis and August Brinkman Melvard; a brother, Byron and a sister, Doris Karn.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard E. and Shirley Melvard of Buffalo, Wyoming; three sisters, Donna (Mrs. Robert) Svanda of Ravenna, Nebraska; Dorothy (Mrs. John) Sukstorf of Fremont and Evelyn (Mrs. LaRoy) Williams of Fremont; two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
