Services for Vera M. Melvard, 85 of Fremont and formerly of Arlington who died at her home December 31, 1991 were Friday, January 3 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Rev. Lee Milligan of Arlington Community Church officiated. Burial was in Memorial Cemetery at Fremont.

Vera M. Melvard was born March 13, 1906 at Telbasta, Nebraska to Edward and Mary Flake Shafersman. She grew up at Telbasta and was a 1923 graduate of Arlington High School.

She worked at her father’s store at Telbasta until her marriage February 24, 1929 at her parents’ home in Telbasta to Richard H. Melvard. She then worked 13 years at the drug store in Arlington.

She moved to Arlington in 1929. She moved to Fremont in August, 1991.

She was a member of Arlington Community Church and the Ladies Aid of the church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Clarence Shafersman and Chester Shafersman.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard E. and Shirley Melvard of Buffalo, Wyoming; two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bill Shafersman, Jim Williams, Brad Williams, Bob Svanda, Gene Jessen and Harley Spencer.

Ruby House was organist. Melvin Misfeldt was soloist.

Moser Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.p>
