Mrs. Robert Melvin.

Mrs. Robert Melvin, who died in Omaha from burns December 14 and was buried in Ft. Calhoun (Nebraska) cemetery December 17, 1911, was a daughter of a veteran of the civil war and leaves a widowed mother, Mrs. Fred Jipp, and five brothers and sisters, Mail Carrier Henry Jipp, Fred Jipp, Mrs. Asa Hammond of Kansas, Mrs. Thatcher of Omaha and Mrs. W. Hindrichsen of Plattsmouth.

Mrs. Melvin was born here in Ft. Calhoun, in what is now the City hotel, May 19, 1873, and as soon as she was old enough became one of the most industrious girls hereabouts, helping her mother secure a home for the family. She was married here to Robert Melvin on July 12, 1894, and leaves and husband and four children – Roy, 16; Robert, 10; Catherine, 14 and Caroline, 12.

This writer is glad to say that, having known her all her life, we have never known anything but good of her; in fact, the whole family have always been highly respected wherever they have lived. Her father was buried at Nebraska City.

Rev. Trench, of the Omaha Presbyterian churches, preached the sermon. Mark and Roy Slader, Miss Birdie Slader, Miss Olga Mortensen and Miss Daisy Slader, all of Coffman, rendered the anthems. Her sisters were all present and three of her sons-in-law. The Omaha Clan Gordon, Ladies’ Auxiliary and numerous other friends sent immense banks of most beautiful flowers. The pallbearers were Wm. and Fred Frahm, Emil Tietjen, John Wallace, Dr. Curtis and Henry Steffen.
