Services were Saturday, April 20 at First Congregational Church in Iowa for Reatha Vera Burger Rogers, 87 who died at Cape Coral Hospital in Florida April 16, 1991, Rev. Rod Wetzig officiated. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Chapel in Waterloo, Iowa in the Masonic Section.

Reatha Vera Burger Rogers was born in rural Glenwood, Iowa March 9, 1904. She was the first born of Clyde and Ethel Estes Burger.

She attended Tabor country school until her family moved to Blair when she was eight years of age. She was baptized at the Estes family Christian Church of Blair in 1915 by Preacher Warren.

She graduated from Central School in Blair. She then attended Normal College where she obtained her teacher’s certificate and then taught in the country schools of Washington County.

She taught at Cruikshank High School. She then became principal of Wranch Consolidated School which included grades one through twelve.

She married Frank Rogers May 25, 1927 in her parent’s home. They lived in Woodbine, Fort Dodge, Duncombe, Wall Lake, Iowa and Nora, Illinois until moving to Parkersburg in 1937 when her husband took the job of Illinois Central Depot Agent.

While in Parkersburg, they were active in the First Congregational Church. She taught Sunday School, was a member of the women’s Guild and Missionary Society, Arts and Crafts Club, the Women’s club and was a charter member of the Parkersburg Historical Society.

She helped in the public school tutoring in English, spelling, reading and mathematics.

She had articles and stories accepted in the children’s magazine, “Highlights”. She also worked at the Parkersburg Eclipse as a newspaper reporter for about 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; one son, Richard; one grandson, Todd Rogers; one granddaughter, Pamela Kruger; her parents and one sister, Mildred Beck.

She is survived by her other three sons, Charles of North Fort Meyers, Florida; Robert of Dunkerton and Franklyn of Davenport; her daughter, R. Cheryl (Sue) Kruger of Wellsburg; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lela (Mrs. Ross) Love of Blair; Mrs. Helen Kepler and Mrs. Wilma Melton both Fort Dodge; and one brother, J. Marshal Burger of Blair.

Casketbearers were Steven Rogers, Jeffrey Rogers, Timothy Rogers, Patrick Rogers and Roger Kruger.

Honorary casketbearers were Bruce Rogers, Larry Rogers, David Rogers, Thomas Rogers, Ronald Rogers, Dennis Rogers, Charles McClure, John McClure, Ronald Osborn, Michael Rogers, Peter Rogers, Sean Rogers, Derek Rogers, Brandon Rogers and Anthony Bauwens.

Arlyce Lindeman was organist, Julie Jordan was soloist.
