Arnold F. Rohwer, 83, of Fremont, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at the Ambassador Nursing Home in Nebraska City.

Services were Monday, March 22, at St, Matthew Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs. The Rev. Timothy J. Gierke officiated.

A military graveside service was conducted by members of the American Legion Post 265 of Colon.

Burial was in Union Cemetery in Cedar Bluffs.

Pallbearers were Wilfred Janecek, Dave Woita, Harley Larsen, Don Smith, Jon Rohwer and Andrew Rohwer.

Arnold F. Rohwer was born on May 10, 1915, to Herman and Clara (Paustian) Rohwer in Colon.

On Nov. 28, 1947, he married Martha L. Kuhr at Grace Lutheran Church in Swedeburg.

A farmer, he worked on the land his grandfather, Henry Paustian, homesteaded until moving to Fremont in November 1985.

He was a resident of the Ambassador Nursing Home in Nebraska City until 1998.

An Army Veteran, he served during World War II from Oct. 17, 1941 to June 18, 1945, in the 97th Field Artillery. He served overseas in the South Pacific for 39 months.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont, a former member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs, and a charter member of the American Legion Post 265 in Colon.

He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Lila Rohwer of Blair, and Keith and Barbara Rohwer of Nebraska City; mother-in-law, Gladys Kuhr of Wahoo; and three grandchildren, Jon, Andrew, and Elizabeth Rohwer.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, who died May 20, 1993; and five brothers, Rudolf, Ewald, Louis, Elmer, and Harry Rohwer.

Memorials are suggested to St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont, or the American Cancer Society.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
