MRS. GEO. ROHWER, SR., A CO. PIONEER DIES AT AGE 95

Mrs. George Rohwer, Sr., pioneer lady of Washington County, died Sunday, Nov. 8, at her home in Ft. Calhoun. She would have been 96 years of age on November 15th.

Catherine (Kate) was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Beekmann, early pioneers of Washington County. She was the first white girl born in the city of Blair and had resided continuously in this county.

In 1888 she went as a bride of George Rohwer to a farm one mile north of Ft. Calhoun. This farm has been in the Rohwer family for 110 years. Several years ago she received the Ak-Sar-Ben Family Award.

Her passing marks the end of an era. She was a woman of true pioneer type, high integrity, strong character and individuality. These qualities she instilled in all of her seven children. She was a long time member of the Ft. Calhoun Woman’s Club and maintained her interest in the schools until the end.

Her husband George died in 1928 and three of her sons, Harry, Carl, and Albert preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, George, Jr., of Ft. Calhoun; three daughters, Mrs. E.S.B. Geesaman (Clare) and Miss Celia Rohwer, both of Ft. Calhoun, and Mrs. E.T. Jipp, Sr. (Helen) of Blair; 12 grand and 28 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rohwer will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 11, at the Ft. Calhoun Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Jack Mauldin will officiate. Burial will be in the Ft. Calhoun Cemetery. The Sievers Mortuary at Ft. Calhoun will be in charge of the service.

Funeral services fro Mrs. George Rohwer, Sr., will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church, with Sievers Mortuary of Fort Calhoun in charge. Burial will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Mrs. Rohwer, the first white girl born in Blair would have been 96 years old on November 15. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Beekmann, pioneers of Washington County. She had lived all her life in that county.

Married in 1888, she and her husband moved to a farm one mile north of Fort Calhoun which has been a possession of the Rohwer family for 110 years.

Several years ago, Mrs. Rohwer received the Ak-Sar-Ben Farm Family Award. She was a longtime member of the Fort Calhoun Woman’s Club, and she maintained an interest in the community’s schools throughout most of her life. Her husband died in 1928. Three sons preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, George, Jr., of Ft. Calhoun; three daughters, Mrs. E.S.B. Geesaman (Clare) and Miss Celia Rohwer, both of Ft. Calhoun, and Mrs. E.T. Jipp, (Helen) of Blair; 12 grand and 28 great-grandchildren.
