Katherine Schmidt Killed in One-Car Accident

Miss Katherine Schmidt, of Dodge City, Kansas, was killed Saturday night, January 30, in a one car accident in Kansas. The accident reportedly took place at approximately 10:30 p.m., just a few miles outside of Greensburg, Kansas. Kathy was reportedly alone in her Volkswagen car when it left the road. It is believed she died as a result of neck injuries received in the crash.

Katherine was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schmidt of Arlington. Kathy was 23 at the time of her death.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 3rd. The service will be at 2 p.m. in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont with Rev. Wm. M. Rucker officiating. Committal will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery north of Arlington. Reckmeyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Katherine was born in Omaha on November 28th, 1947. She had lived with her parents on a farm near Arlington. She attended and graduated from Arlington High School. Katherine was noted for excellence in showmanship of her 4-H livestock projects. She particularly excelled in the showing of sheep.

She was baptized and confirmed at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. She graduated from Arlington High in 1966.

Katherine went into the Journalism profession. She worked for the Fremont Guide and Tribune and the Lincoln Journal-Star newspaper before going to Kansas. In Kansas she was reporter for the High Plains Journal of Dodge City, Kansas. She had been with the Kansas newspaper since January.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Schmidt of Arlington and her grandmother, Mrs. Edna Schmidt of Arlington.
