STEWART W. KINDLER, KOREAN WAR VETERAN

Stewart W. “Joe” Kindler, 77, of Tekamah, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, in Blair, after a 35-year battle with multiple sclerosis.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, at the Good Shepherd Chapel in Blair. Interment with military honors will be at the Tekamah Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon, Monday, July 5, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Stewart Wrede Kindler was born Nov. 30, 1932, in Omaha, to Dorsey John and Ruth Atha (McCann) Kindler. He attended public schools in Tekamah, and was a graduate of the class of 1950. He contributed to Tekamah High School’s successful athletic era of 1947-1950.

He attended both Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

On Nov. 16, 1964, he married Diane Loerch of Tekamah. Together they raised their three children. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He farmed west of Tekamah until illness forced him into retirement. He was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tekamah. He was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

Mr. Kindler was known for his keen memory of the origins of family names, family history and genealogy. He had a seemingly photographic recall of sporting events, players’ exploits, batting averages and sports scores.

Survivors include his wife, Diane, of Blair; three children, Stewart, Jr. of Omaha; Susan of Blair and John and wife, Allison; four grandchildren, Joey, Olivia, Sierra and Bryce; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dorsey Boyd of St. Clarisville, Ohio, and S. Dean and Beverly Kindler of Omaha; countless nephews, nieces and friends.
