Gustav E. Rolland, 80, of Orum died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at his home in rural Orum.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Gustav E. Rolland was born Oct. 6, 1918, to Lars M. and K. Matilda (Larsen) Rolland on the family farm located south of Orum.

He attended a rural school in Orum.

An Army veteran, he served during World War II.

On Feb. 14.1947, he married LaVonne Quist at the First Lutheran Church in Blair.

He operated the Orum Store for eight years, before starting a mobile feed milling operation. He then went into the retail farm supply business that he operated from his rural Orum farm.

He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and watching softball games. Over the years, he sponsored several teams in the Blair area. He built a ball field on the current site of his home for local boys to play. He named the team the Orum Orioles.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Blair American Legion and Blair VFW, where he was a charter member of the First Squad.

He is survived by his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Sheryl Rolland, Kenneth and Tracey Rolland; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay Beth and Robert Leehy, and Kathleen and David Huhnerkopt, all of Blair, eleven grandchildren; mother-in-law, Clara Quist of Blair; brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Marilyn Rolland of Blair; sister, Margaret Story of Los Gatos, Calif.; sister and brothers-in-law, Helen and Jerry Lallman of Peoria, Ariz., Eunice and Martin Kuhr, Jr. of Blair; brother and sisters-in-law, Quentin and Joan Quist, Arvid and Joan Quist, Darvid and JoAnn Quist, all of Blair.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Alfred S. Quist.

Gustav E. Rolland was born October 6, 1918 on the family farm south of Orum, Nebraska, to Lars M. and K. Matilda (Larsen) Rolland. He was baptized November 24, 1918 and confirmed July 9, 1933 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Orum. He attended the Orum rural school.

He was an Army veteran serving during World War II. After the War, he was united in marriage to LaVonne Quist on February 14, 1947 at the First Lutheran Church in Blair.

He operated the Orum Store for eight years before starting a mobile feed milling operation. He then went into the retail farm supply business that he ran from his rural Orum farm.

Gus was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the Blair American Legion, and the Blair Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he was a charter member of the Firing Squad.

He also enjoyed going on fishing trips to Canada and watching softball games. Over the years he had sponsored several teams in the Blair area. At one time he built a field where his current home stands, and had a team of local boys who played in the area. He named his team the Orum Orioles.

Surviving are his wife, LaVonne, of Blair, two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Sheryl Rolland, and Kenneth and Tracey Rolland; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay Beth and Robert Leehy, and Kathleen and David Huhnerkopf, all of Blair; 11 grandchildren, Michael Rolland, Jaclyn (Rolland) Svendgard, Christopher Rolland, Jennifer Huhnerkopf, Alan Huhnerkopf, Carney Rolland, Avery Rolland, Kelby Rolland, Lucas Leehy, Nolan Leehy, Megan Leehy, mother-in-law Clara Quist of Blair, brother and sister-in-laws, Phil and Marilyn Rolland, of Blair; sister, Margaret Stroy, of Los Gatos, California; sister and brothers-in-law, Helen and Jerry Lallman, of Peoria, Arizona, and Eunice and Martin Kuhr Jr. of Blair; brothers and sisters-in-law, Quentin and Joan Quist, of Blair, Arvin and Joan Quist, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and Darvid and JoAnn Quist, of Blair; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Alfred S. Quist.
