Services for Mrs. Karen Matilda Rolland will be held on Thursday July 6th, at 10 a.m., in the First Lutheran Church in Blair. Mrs. Rolland died on July 3rd at the Blair Hospital at the age of 89. Mrs. Rolland had been a resident of Crowell Home and recently underwent surgery following a fall which resulted in a broken hip.

Rev. Robert Albers will officiate with services under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Karen Matilda Rolland was born December 19, 1888 at Orum, Nebraska, to Reverend and Mrs. Andes Larsen. Her father was pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Orum from 1878 to 1904, moving into the new Orum parsonage when Matilda was a baby. She had eight brother and sisters who have all preceded her in death.

They family moved to Thor, Iowa, where Reverend Larsen accepted a call, and Matilda attended school in Thor and then attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. While teaching school, she met a Norwegian immigrant, Lars Rolland, who became her husband on March 17, 1914. They later moved back to Orum. Two sons and three daughters were born to them.

Her husband Lars preceded her in death in1944. After his death, she worked at Crowell Home in Blair as head cook for many years, later semi-retiring and spending many hours helping in the occupational therapy departments.

She is survived by five children, 16 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. The children are Mrs. H. C. (Margaret) Story, Greeley, Colorado; Mrs. Jerry (Helen) Lallman, Omaha; Mrs. Martin (Eunice) Kuhr, Blair; Gustav Rolland, Blair; and Phil Rolland, Blair.
