DIED. James S. Caldwell, March 23, and was buried in Blair, March 25, Rev. Batts officiating. Mr. Caldwell was born in Washington county, Va., Feb. 20, 1832, and was married to Eleanor Rhea, Jan. 5, 1854. He united with the Lutheran church when he was a young man. He was the father of nine children, eight of whom are now living and were with him when death came. His wife and eldest boy died several years ago. He emigrated to Nebraska in 1872, living here ever since. Mr. Caldwell was at one time a captain in the state militia of Virginia and when the war broke out he enlisted with the 10th Virginia battalion, serving until the close of the war. He numbered his friends by all who knew him, having a kind word for everybody. He was 69 years, 1 month and 3 days old. Ye scribe extends our heartfelt sympathy with the entire community.
