ARLINGTON MAN DIES IN FIRE IN MOBILE HOME By the Enterprise Staff

A 46-year-old Arlington man apparently died on smoke inhalation as he was trying to escape from a fire in his mobile home Friday morning.

The body of Charles F. Schneider, 46, of Arlington was discovered by firefighters and investigators responding to the 7 a.m. fire in the 500 block of North Davis.

Sheriff Terry Horner said the autopsy completed Saturday indicated that smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning were the causes of death.

It appeared Schneider’s body was found near a back window of the trailer.

“They think he was probably overcome by smoke inhalation as he was trying to escape,” Horner said.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the fire and its cause was believed to be a cigarette burning in a sofa.

“Fire investigators said it probably smoldered quite some time,” Horner said.

A witness driving by on Highway 30 reported the fire, the sheriff said.

The Arlington and Kennard Fire Departments responded to the fire and extinguished it, Horner said.
