MELVIN F. CAMDEN, 74

Funeral services for Melvin F. Camden, 74, of La Cygne,Kan., were held Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at the new Lancaster United Methodist Church. Mr. Camden died Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kan.

Melvin Frank Camden was born May 2, 1927, in Blair.

He served in the Navy during World War II from December 1944 to June 1946.

On Oct. 26, 1946, he married Maxine Hanthorne.

Mr. Camden worked as a farmer and a stockman in the Drexel and La Cygne areas. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a former member of the V.F.W. in Nebraska. He was also a member of the New Lancaster United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine; four daughters, Gloria Jean Lang of La Cygne; Ruth Ann Becker of Holts Summit, Mo.; Judy Lynn Camden of Harrisonville, Mo.; and Melodie Sue Strausbaugh of Spring Hill, Kan.; two brothers, Charles Raymond Camden of Drexel, Mo., and Vernon LeRoy Camden of Omaha; three sisters, Betty I. Lawrence of Independence, Mo.; Anna Mae Hall of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Lois Humphrey of Omaha; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, William Strausbaugh, III; and a granddaughter, Patricia Jean Long.

Memorials are suggested to the family, or the New Lancaster United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Coffel-Schneider Mangold Funeral Home in La Cygne was in charge of arrangements.
