CHARLES M. CAMPBELL, 70

Lifetime Blair resident, Charles M. “Buzz” Campbell, 70, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Crowell Memorial Home, ending his suffering from Alzheimer’s.

Funeral services were Thursday, May 22, at the First United Methodist Church in Blair.

Charles Melvin Campbell was born June 5, 1937, in Blair, to Leslie “Deb” and Ida “Marie” (Hillman) Campbell. He was baptized and confirmed at First United Methodist Church in Blair.

On April 1, 1957, he married Karen Gottsch of Kennard.

Mr. Campbell worked as a certified welder at Fruehauf in Omaha, for 44 years retiring in 2000. He was the first welder at Fruehauf to be certified by the United States military to build portable floating bridges.

He was a multiple State duck and goose calling champion, earning his first title in 1956. Self-taught, he also was a two-time World Goose Calling Champion. He had a deep appreciation for the great outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish.

Many will remember him for his talent to tell a good story.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, and four children and their spouses: Kim and Joe Foral, Russ Campbell, Sandy and Kevin Hall, Terri and Jason Willmott, all of Blair; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a brother, Vernon “Tud” Campbell of Henderson, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Wetze; and a grandson, Nick Campbell.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

SERVICES 11 A.M. Thursday, May 22, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Burial of Cremains 10 A.M. Saturday at the Blair Cemetery. VISITATION will be from 12 – 8 P.M. Wednesday with family receiving friends from 6 – 8 P.M.
