George E. Campbell, 82, of Blair, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Mr. Campbell was born Dec. 4, 1915, in Blair to J.E. and Blanche L. (Hoover) Campbell. He graduated from Blair High School in 1933. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. On Aug. 4, 1939, he married Harriett Wilson in Blair. He attended Mortuary Science School in Kansas City and was in business with his father. After his father’s death, he continued in the business until retiring in 1978. He also worked for the postal department for 30 years, retiring from that job in 1974.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Blair Volunteer Fire Department. He was instrumental in the building of the present Blair Golf Club.

Survivors are his brother, J.H. Campbell, North Bend. Ore.; nephews and nieces, Ron and Connie Sylvis, Jim Campbell, Bob Wilson, Pam Gunlicks, Richard Vinton, Barbara Randall and Susie Stodola; grandnieces and grandnephews; and special friends, Fred and Fran Aman and family and Craig and Ronna Saylor and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Harriett, in 1996; and a sister, Virginia Bauer.

Memorials may be directed to the Blair Rescue Squad.

Campbell-Aman Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
