Francis Matson, 77

Funeral services for Francis Alfred Matson, 77, of Blair will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 1988, at First Lutheran Church with Rev. James McBride officiating.

Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday.

Francis died March 8, 1988, in Blair.

He was born September 1, 1910, in Elgin to Peter Alfred and Allie (Stevens) Matson.

On June 14, 1933, he married Margaret Daniels in Petersburg.

Survivors include his wife; son Dale and daughter-in-law Deloris of Blair, daughter Mrs. John (Evonne) Louis of Richland Center, Wisconsin, sister Dora Eddy of Grand Island, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, four sisters and one great-grandson.

Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church.

Francis Alfred Matson, 77, died March 8, 1988, of a heart attack at this home.

Frances was born September 1, 1910, in Antelope County to Peter Alfred and Allie (Stevens) Matson. He was baptized at Park Congregational Church in Elgin October 9, 1910.

He attended country schools in the Elgin area, then farmed until he was united in marriage to Margaret Ella Daniels June 14, 1933, in Petersburg.

They moved to Bassett, where they ranched for several years before returning to the Elgin and Petersburg area, where they continued to ranch.

In 1960, they moved to Blair, where Francis began work as an operating engineer for Local 571 in Omaha for 21 years until retirement.

After retiring, he kept busy with his wood crafting hobby.

Survivors include wife Margaret, son Dale and daughter-in-law Deloris of Blair; daughter and son-in-law, Evonne and John Louis of Richland Center, Wisconsin; sister Dora Eddy of Grand Island, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, four sisters and one great-grandson.

Funeral services were held March 12, 1988, at First Lutheran Church with Rev. James McBridge officiating. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery. A prayer service was held Friday evening.

Pallbearers were Steven Louis, Dana Matson, Dick Matson, Darrell Matson, Gregory Alvin and Melvin Matson.

Honorary pallbearers were Bob Hardy, Bill Tripp, Jack Varley, Dale Stricklett, Roy Metzler and Adrian Flynn. Campbell Funeral Home of Blair handled the arrangements.
