Donald Edward Petersen, Sr., 79, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997 at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.

Services were Monday at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home. Rev. Gregg Miller officiated. Burial was in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Mr. Petersen was born April 17, 1918 in Avoca, Iowa, to Edward and Mayme Petersen. He grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He attended Tech High School. On March 18, 1955, he married Kathryn Clara LaChappell. He worked for Northwestern Bell in the Omaha area for 33 years before retiring. He belonged to the Northwestern Bell Pioneers.

Survivors are his wife, Kathryn; a son, Donald E. Petersen; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ken Petersen.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna M. Blenden.
