Emma Louise Petersen was born November 22, 1893 in Washington County, Nebraska, to Fred and Anna Cornelius. Emma was baptized in the Christian faith and confirmed her faith March 26, 1937 at St. John’s, where she remained a faithful worshiper and dedicated member through the years. She was a member of the Mary-Martha Circle of the Lutheran Church Women. She was an avid, energetic quilter of overseas blankets and a faithful participant in the Over-60 Center since its inception.

On June 25, 1913 she was united in marriage to John Petersen and the couple established themselves in Bennington. They resided in Bennington most of their life. Six children were born to this union.

Emma will be remembered as a loving, caring person, one who loved her family, her Lord, her church, and her friends. She was a dear friend herself and her generosity in sharing was noticed by many. She was employed in the Mangold grocery store for many years. Abiding faith and the determination to make the most of life helped her through the deep sorrows that came in the deaths of her husband, John, her son Alfred, one daughter, Minnie Schnack, and one grandson. She appreciated the support of her family, her grandchildren, and took pride in the great-grandchildren, and the great-great grand-children.

Emma died at the Good Shepherd home in Blair on Tuesday, May 7 at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 15 days. She is survived by four loving daughters, Mrs. Hazel Convey of Omaha, Sofia and Clarence Sorensen of Blair, Ruby and Victor Nielsen of Omaha, Viola and Harlan Sibert of Valley; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
