Services held today for Elna Lillian Petersen

Funeral services for Elna Lillian Petersen of Blair were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the First United Methodist Church. Dr. Gordon Patterson officiated with organist Clare Cowing and vocalist Barry Beard. Song selections were “How Great Thou Art” and “The Lord’s Prayer”. Graveside services followed at the Herman Cemetery.

Born August 29, 1914 in Herman to Alfred and Clara Petersen, Elna was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. She attended grade school at Hill Creek and graduated from Herman High School. She attended Dana College and taught school in the Herman area.

Elna married Donald E. Petersen Nov. 25, 1942. Donald was serving in the U.S. Army at the time and they made their home in Arlington, Virginia, where she worked at a bank.

Upon the couple’s return to Blair, she resumed her employment at the Tyson Company of Blair as a bookkeeper. Late she became a most efficient bookkeeper for Blair Supply Company for 32 years until her retirement.

Elna and Donald belonged to the First Methodist Church of Blair, where she served as Financial Secretary.

Elna is survived by her husband Donald E., one sister Violet Kindler of Glendale, California, two brothers, Arnold Petersen of Blair and Hubert Petersen of Fremont, one aunt, Julia Petersen of Blair, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Elna was 70.

Pallbearers were Ralph Bauer, Larry Dennis, Wendell Homes, Dwaynne Mazour, Emery Nelson and Lloyd Wright.
