E. Howard Fairchild, 87

E. Howard Fairchild, 87, died Friday, April 29, 2005, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at St. Gerald’s Catholic Church in Omaha. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday May 5, at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens in North Platte.

E. Howard Fairchild was born Jan. 28, 1918, on a farm near Kennard, to Ralph E. and Ada Belle (Gates) Fairchild. He grew up and attended schools in Kennard and Blair. He attended Dana College and the Engineering College at the University of Nebraska. He married Evelyn Mae Brown on Dec. 17, 1939, in Blair. They were married for 52 years, living in Omaha and North Platte. After his wife’s death in January 1992, Mr. Fairchild later married Mary E. Dewitt in Omaha.

Mr. Fairchild was a civil engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed golf and fishing and will be remembered for his friendly and easy-going manner.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Nancy, of Arvada, Colo., James and Cheryl of Raleigh, N.C., Roger and Geri of Sammamish, Wash.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Millard Good Samaritan Center.

Visitation Tuesday, at Mortuary, 108pm with family receiving friends 6-8. Rosary, Tuesday, 7pm, also at the mortuary. Memorials to Millard Good Samaritan Center.
