John H. Lutz, 81

John H. Lutz, 81, of Blair, died Saturday, October 13, 2007 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Blair. Interment with military honors will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

John Howard Lutz was born Aug. 30, 1926, in Blair, to Frank and Kate (Pfaff) Lutz. He attended school in Blair and graduated from Blair High School.

In April, 1944, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until August 1946. Upon his return from military service, he worked at the Pilot-Tribune as the head pressman. Ten years later, he went to work at the Lutheran Publishing House and, until his retirement, worked for Runyon and Long Construction.

He was a member of the American Legion.

He married Mary Lou Long; she preceded him in death in 1973. On Nov. 16, 1975, he married Imogene Dennis Andersen.

Mr. Lutz served on the Blair City Council for 13 years, acted as mayor for six months, and served on the Washington County Board of Supervisors for 17 ½ years, serving as chairman for eight years.

He is survived by his wife, Imogene; four daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Randy Rasmussen of Blair, Pam and James Gutschow, and Dianne Jahn, all of Kansas City, Mo., and Amy and Rob Divis of Phoenix, Ariz.; stepchildren, Tom and Linda Andersen, Kathy and Dan Frahm, Linda and Gordon Lippincott, and Amy and Shawn Thallas, all of Blair, and Julie Anderson of Loveland, Colo; 21 grandchildren; sister, Twila Larson of Merrit Island, Fla.; and sister-in-law Joyce Lutz of Perry, Iowa.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Georgia Larsen; brother, Robert Lutz; son-in-law, Donald Jahn; and a grandson, Justin.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
