Phillip E. Rosenbaum, 83

Phillip E. Rosenbaum, 83, of Perry, Iowa, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, due to complications following surgery.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Granger, Iowa. Private interment will be at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter, Iowa.

Phillip Elroy Rosenbaum was born May 10, 1930, in Fremont, the son of Elroy and Augusta (Mavis) Rosenbaum.

He grew up in Arlington and worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad as a telegrapher. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

On May 22, 1952, he was united in marriage to Joy Trierweiler.

He worked more than 25 years for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa, living in Urbandale, Grimes and Granger until settling in Perry in 2009.

Mr. Rosenbaum enjoyed camping and spending winters in Alamo, Texas. He was a proud 50-year member of the Masons and Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Kaaba Shrine in Davenport, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joy; four children: Rebecca (Billy) Foley of Urbandale, Roberta (Rio) Thompson of Dallas Center, Iowa, Aaron (Trudy) Rosenbaum of Granger and Keith (Sheryl) Rosenbaum of Perry; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Donna Mae Wulf of Arlington.

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Daniel Conway; sister-in-law Gladys Albaugh; and brother-in-law Clifford Wulf.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Minneapolis, Minn.

Iles-Brandt Dallas Center Chapel in Des Moines is handling arrangements.
