Services Held For Gertrude Petersen

Funeral services for Gertrude Caroline Petersen were held Wednesday, March 27 at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Omaha with the Rev, William Keeler officiating.

Gertrude Caroline Petersen, the daughter of Herman and Wilhelmina Hoeck Penke, was born August 24, 1903 on a farm near Bennington, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Bennington. She attended Bennington Schools.

On January 26, 1924 she married Peter A. Petersen at Bennington.

They farmed their entire life and in 1942 they moved to a farm near Herman, Nebraska where they lived until their retirement in 1962, when they moved to Omaha, Nebraska.

Gertrude kept busy with her Prayer Club and Ladies Aid. She also enjoyed her flowers, vegetable garden, sewing, cooking and doing acts of kindness for her neighbors and friends.

In 1968 her husband passed away. In 1982 Gertrude moved to the Wisner Manor in Wisner, Nebraska where she resided until her death on March 25. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and a sister.

She is survived by her three children, Mrs. Robert L. (Betty) Merryweather of Valley, Nebraska, Curtis E. Petersen of Herman, Nebraska, Mrs. Keith C. (Lei Lany) Rasmussen of Wisner, Nebraska, 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Thomas (Minnie) Ruckl of Omaha.

Pallbearers were Max Holdorf, Wallace Neuhaus, Herman Penke, Leonard Penke, Wayland Penke, and Gary Vickers. Burial was at Mt, Hope Cemetery, Omaha. Kremer Funeral Home of Omaha was in charge of arrangements.
