On the 24th day of October, Johnnie T. Petersen and his brother Hans were driving a young horse, when something go wrong with the gear which Johnnie adjusted. In doing so his coat brushed against the animal’s hind leg. This frightened the horse so that he struck the young man a violent blow in the groin. Apparently, the injury was but temporary, as he got into the wagon and rode home; nor did he suffer to any extent that day. The next morning, however, he was decidedly worse. Drs. Pruner and Jonas of Omaha, were called and a nurse secured, and everything that human skill and loving hands could do was done, but to no avail. Johnnie grew rapidly worse. His sister Dora, and her husband, Fred Christensen, were called by wire. All the other members of the family were present. Surrounded by all those he held dear, the spirit of Johnnie passed peace-fully away at 6:45 a.m., on the 27th of October.

The funeral was held on the 29th, at 1 o’clock p.m. at the house. The floral offerings were many and uncommonly beautiful. The choir rendered three songs at the house and one at the grave and the singing was good. The services were conducted by Rev. A.F. Schafer. The funeral cortege that followed the remains to the Blair cemetery was over a mile long.

Johnnie T. Petersen, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Petersen, was born August 16, 1891, at the home where his parents now reside. He died on the 27th of October, 1909, being 18 years, 2 months and 11 days old.

It is needless to say that the family have our sincere sympathy.
