BLANCHE CARLBERG, 81

Services were Monday, February 5, at First United Methodist Church in Fremont for Blanche Carlberg, 81, who died February 1, 1990 at the University of Nebraska Geriatric Center in Omaha. Dr. Joe Scahill officiated. Burial was in the Arlington Cemetery in Arlington.

Blanche Whorlow was born January 18, 1909 in Kennard. She later moved with her family to Wayne where she finished her schooling and attended Wayne State College to obtain her teaching credentials. She taught in various Washington County schools.

She got her bachelor’s degree at Dana College in Blair and her master’s degree at the University of Nebraska. She taught at Blair High School, retiring from teaching in 1972.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fremont and its Rebecca Circle; Just For Fun Club of Arlington; Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority; Cedar Bluffs Garden Club and the Retired Teachers Association.

She married Milton Carlberg February 7, 1931 in Iowa. He survives.

Other survivors include a son, Gene Carlberg and his wife, Elaine of Bakersfield, California; three brothers, Paul Whorlow of Norfolk, Robert Whorlow of Downey, California, and Merle Whorlow of San Diego, California; two sisters, Roberta Jensen of Blair and Amy Schuler of Wayne; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of Bakersfield.

Memorials have been established to United Methodist Women and the American Cancer Society.

Ludvigsen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements for the services.
