Virginia Livermore was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Willard, Colo., to John and Freida (Marsh) Livermore. She grew up on the farm near Willard, and graduated from Graylin Heights High School in Sterling, Colo., in 1936.

She came to Nebraska and lived on the Marsh farm east of Fremont. She graduated from the Capitol Beauty School in Omaha, then worked in Fremont at the Permanent Wave Beauty Shop.

On Nov. 23, 1939, she married Ralph Motley in Blue Earth, Minn.

They lived on the Leonard Nelson farm east of Fremont, then moved to an Art Gifford Farm south of Arlington, and then to an Echtenkamp farm north of Arlington. The couple moved into Arlington in 1950. She worked for several years during the holiday season for the Sperling Turkey Farm at Arlington.

The couple started the Dairy Sweet Shop in 1957, which is still located on Highway 30 in Arlington, and operated that until selling it in 1965.

Mrs. Motley had also been the bookkeeper for the Phillips Oil Co. in Arlington for nine years.

She was a member of the Arlington Community Church. She volunteered with the blood mobile in Arlington. She was very active in the Arlington Over 60 Center, where she and Mr. Motley and Howard Johnson enjoyed playing cards, especially five-point pitch.

Mr. Motley died in September of 1990.

Later, she and Howard Johnson became good friends and enjoyed doing many things together until his death. She is survived by two daughters, Sally and husband Melvin Schmidt of Arlington and Judi and husband Duane McKenzie of Fremont; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; a great-grandson, Eric Lang; and two brothers, Delbert and K.C. Livermore.
