Mary M. Diehl, 97, of Lancaster, Ohio, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

Mary M. Johns was born on March 12, 1916, in Erie, Pa., to Benjamin S. and Rachel M. (Corbet) Johns. She grew up in the Butler, Pa. area. After high school graduation, she attended the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburg. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1939.

She married Philip John Diehl, who later became a pastor in the EUB Church. The couple served in several different churches ending with Pastor Diehl's early death in Baltimore, Ohio.

She worked as a nurse for more than 30 years in Ohio.

Her faith was paramount to her and she was always active in the church. She supported several children with the Christian Children’s Fund over the years.

She was an avid seamstress and made dresses as a ministry. Over the years, she made countless articles of clothing for her family. She always worked hard to provide educational opportunities for her children. Her deep faith in Christ was the foundation of her entire life.

She is survived by her children: Betty Landis, Jack Diehl, Jim Diehl, Barbara Diehl and Jean Shaffer; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and three grandchildren.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair is in charge of arrangements.
