VIGGO I. CARLSEN, 89

Viggo I. Carlsen, 89, of Blair, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha.

Viggo Immanuel Carlsen was born April 19, 1913, in Superior, Wis., to Dr. Niels Christian and Caroline Martha (Neve) Carlsen. He graduated from Blair High School, Dana College, and also attended Michigan University. He received his master’s degree from the University of Nebraska.

On Aug. 4, 1936, he married Viola Hansen in Blair.

Mr. Carlsen was a public school music teacher for 42 years. He worked for several schools in Nebraska, Mapleton, Iowa, and for 25 years, in the Omaha Public Schools. He retired in 1978, and in 1989, moved back to Blair.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Lois Carlsen of Blair; two daughters, Ellen Ellick and Norma Glodas of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren and their spouses; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, the Rev. Verner Carlsen of Solvag, Calif.; the Rev. Niels Carlsen of Summerfield, Fla.; and Stanley Carlsen of Des Moines, Iowa; and a sister, Eunice Larsen of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola; two brothers, Raymond and Alvin Carlsen; and three sisters, Lois Sorensen, Esther Hansen, and Rhoda Holl.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Preceded in death by wife, Viola. Viggo taught public school music for 42 years with the last 25 in Omaha Public Schools.

SERVICES 1:30 pm Tues. First Lutheran Church, Blair. Burial Forest Lawn.

VISITATION 12 Noon to 8 pm Mon. with family receiving friends from 6 – 8 pm at Funeral Home.
