Arnold K. Rosterman, 83, of Blair, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2005 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 6 at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home, with interment in the Blair Cemetery.

Arnold K. Rosterman was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Lyons to Henry and Christina (Hansen) Rosterman. The family moved to Blair in 1927, and Mr. Rosterman graduated from Blair High School in 1940. He was a member of the undefeated 1939 football team, and later attended Omaha University.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart from Col. Fred Dodge for meritorious service in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He served in the Leyte campaign, and was the only surviving member of his platoon in the invasion of Okinawa. He was a 1st Sergeant with the 96th Infantry Division, and a member of the elite “Flame Thrower” regiment.

He was self-employed and operated the Rosterman Mobile Home Court and Rosterman’s Sand and Gravel Service.

He is survived by his sisters, Goldie Fleury of Lake Charles, La.; Ruth Schoeman of Atlanta, Ga.; Helen Kearnes of Blair; and a brother, Robert Rosterman of Chicago, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Donald; and three sisters, Rose Halstead, Carrie Kephart, and infant sister Norman Jean.

Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
